My name is Giuseppe Mottola and I am a New York based Italian Director of Photography with over 25 years of experience in commercials, films, documentaries, television and teaching.
I started learning about photography from my father who had a photography studio in Puglia, Italy. After helping him take and develop photos, I decided to move to Rome to learn about film.I studied Cinematography under the maestro Giuseppe Rotunno at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia.
He taught me the importance of technique and rigor in this type of work but also how vital artistic inspiration is – to recognize and be inspired by the aesthetic beauty the world’s great painters and artists left behind. I use these lessons each time I am work with light.
My recent projects include a documentary on comic book artist Frank Miller and a short film where I was the DoP and Executive Producer.
